David and Vicky on s/v Windfreak

The Voyage of Adventure and Self Discovery

November 2007 - January 2009

Hi.  My name is David Goins.  My wife Vicky and I totally re-arranged our lives to do something we've dreamed of for many years.  We renovated, re-built, and outfitted our 1985 Pearson 36 (hull #33).   I quit my job as an RF MEMS design engineer.  Vicky quit her job as a Financial Analyst.   We had a blowout garage sale to rid ourselves of the things that held us down.  We left Galveston Bay to explore the Caribbean, and possibly the world.

We were blessed with a wonderful, life changing cruise.  We circumnavigated the Caribbean in a clockwise fashion.  We met some wonderful people and made life long friends.

Now we are back in Houston, working for NASA and enjoying this phase of our lives.  But Windfreak (v2.0) sits in her slip, waiting to take us back.

Get a dream, and take chances with your life!  You will be glad you did.

We wish you fair winds and following seas.

Sincerely,

David and Vicky

Update 1/2021. Its been awhile. Thanks for checking back! Vicky and I ended up living on Windfreak (v2.0 - a Catalina 470) for awhile. Then we had baby Tristan in 2013. We also started our business Windfreaktech.com. Then we decided to move to Florida to be close to Vicky's parents. Now we have sold Windfreak 2.0, live on the water and buzz around in a fishing boat. So big changes from 2008, but we are loving life still. Maybe after Tristan goes to college we will turn our bow back down-island. That sparkling blue water always calls. God only knows.
